Nice start to the weekend, and then storms return

Overnight storms have moved out of the area and metro-east residents can expect a pleasant start to the weekend.

Skies will be sunny Friday with a high temperature of 76 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.

Clear skies and a low of 51 are expected overnight.

On Saturday the forecast calls for mostly sunny skies and a high temperature of 80. But Sunday will likely be wet -- and there is a chance that storms could become severe.

There is a 60 percent chance of thunderstorms Sunday during the daytime hours with the most likely chance of wet weather coming after 1 p.m. The high temperature is expected to be 80 with gusty winds up to 28 mph.

The chance of rain will increase to 80 percent Sunday night when the low will be 62.

Cooler weather is expected next week. According to the long-range forecast, the high Wednesday is only expected to reach 59.
