3-4 -- Belleville Chili Cookoff: Friday and Saturday, Main Street in downtown Belleville. Chili samples for sale. Vote for your favorite chili; $1 per vote. Junior Idol talent contest on Saturday. Chili Chase 5K Run/Walk and Kids Pepper Dash, 9 a.m. Saturday; starts at Church and East Main streets; adults $20; $25 after Sept. 14; $30 day of race; $16 and under $15. Kids Pepper Dash, $5 13 and under.

5 -- Taste of Germany Dinner. Annual Belleville Sister Cities fund-raiser featuring German food and music.

5 -- Wild Wheels Car Party, Wild Country in Collinsville.

11 -- Pumpkin Fest: 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, Courthouse Square, Waterloo. 5K run/walk. Music, craft and merchants booths, pumpkin painting, pumpkin games, pumpkin contests, washer tournament, demonstrations, face painting, food.

12 -- Maeystown Oktoberfest: 9-4 p.m. Sunday, Maeystown. Craft, antique and food fair in the village center along Maeystown Creek.

12 -- Holy Family Parish Celebration: 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday, Holy Family Parish grounds, Illinois 3 and 157, Cahokia. Grand opening of Holy Family Museum. Mass in the log church, 11 a.m. Final days for visitors to view archeological dig at Holy Family, noon-5 p.m. Presentation on history and archeological treasures by Robert Mazrim from 2 to 3 p.m. in the log church. Tasting dinner with recipes from French families, 3-5 p.m.; $100 per person.

19 -- Bike Belleville/Bike Decorating Contest. Presented by Optimist Club of Belleville.

24 --Trick-or-Treating: at shops in downtown Belleville.

25 -- Belleville Museums Open House: 10 a.m.-3 p.m., Belleville. St. Clair County Historical Society, Belleville Historical Society, Gustave Koerner House, St. Clair County Genealogical Society and the Labor & Industry Museum will open the following sites: Victorian Home Museum, 701 E. Washington St.; Emma Kunz Museum, 602 Fulton St.; Messinger Cemetery, 3450 Old Collinsville Road; Garfield Street Saloon, 633 E. Garfield St.; Gustave Koerner House, 200 Abend St.; Koerner House Visitor Center, 127 Mascoutah Ave.; Belleville Public Library, 121 E. Washington St.; Labor & Industry Museum, 123 N. Church St.

26 -- Fall Festival: 3:30-6:30, Sunday, First Christian Church of Belleville, 5929 Old St. Louis Road, Belleville. Trunk-or-treating, carnival games and activities, face painting, bounce house, music. Chili cookoff, hot dogs, funnel cakes. Free admission.
