3 -- Blast Off Parade and Fireworks. Thursday, Albers.

3 -- Lebanon Fireworks, dusk Thursday, Hoerner Park, 11109 Widicus Road, Lebanon.

3-Aug. 9 -- 200 Years of History: Schmidt Art Gallery, Southwestern Illinois College. Belleville bicentennial exhibit.

4 -- Liberty Bell of the West Patriotic Celebration: 12:30 p.m. Friday, Kaskaskia Island. Patriotic music and speakers. Ringing of the bells of liberty. French Marines salute. Traditional food available for purchase.

4 -- Alhambra Fireworks: dusk, 610 Park Drive, Alhambra.

4 -- 4th of July Celebration: Friday, American Legion Park, 375 E. Locust, Columbia. Patriotic bike parade, bingo, kloepper and washer tournaments, music, food and fireworks.

4 -- Highland Fireworks: Friday, Glik Park, Highland. Vendors, fun family activities, fireworks at dusk.

4 -- Old-Fashioned July 4 Celebration: Friday, Scheve Park, Mascoutah. Softball and kickball tournaments, rides, kids games, food and drinks, raffle, artisans, U.S. Air Force Band of MidAmerica playing in the evening. Fireworks at dusk.

5 -- Independence Day Fireworks: Saturday at Southwestern Illinois College. Patriotic music and fireworks display.

5 -- St. Michael's Paderborn Church Picnic: 3 p.m. Saturday, St. Michael's Paderborn Church, 4576 Bass Branch Road, Waterloo. All-you-can-eat fried chicken dinner, 3-7 p.m.; Masses, 3:30 and 5 p.m.; Hand-stitched quilt bingo, 6 p.m.; raffle and picnic attractions.

5 -- Caseyville Independence Day Picnic: Saturday, Caseyville Park, 40 W. Reynolds St., Caseyville. Picnic opens at 5 p.m. with an old tractor show, music by Sweetwater, pony rides and kids activities. Fireworks at dusk.

8-14 -- Washington County Fair, Nashville.

9 -- Picnic in the Park: 7 p.m., Prairie du Rocher. Live music and food.

9 -- Car Cruise: 4-9 p.m. Wednesday, Dandy Inn, U.S. 50 and Old Collinsville Road, Fairview Heights. First 100 cars get a free commemorative plaque.

11 -- Tour de Belleville Bike Ride.

11-12 -- Maryville Firemen's Homecoming: 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Firemen's Park, Maryville. Parade with theme "Outdoor Fun" at 7 p.m. Friday, 6 p.m. Saturday. Rides, music, food.

11-12 -- St. John the Baptist Church Picnic: Friday and Saturday, St. John the Baptist Church in Red Bud. Fish dinner, Friday night. Chicken dinner with homemade dressing, Saturday night. Quilt and cash bingo, music, games, both nights. 5K Knights of Columbus Red Bud Round, Saturday.

11-12 -- Millstadt Fire Department Picnic: Friday and Saturday, Millstadt. Fish, chicken, brats, burgers, chicken wings. Rides, games, Chicago ball tournament. Music: Well Hungarians, Friday; Bob Band, Saturday.

11-12 -- Smithton Turner Picnic: Friday and Saturday, Smithton Turner Park. World Famous Turner Fish. Music by Old Salt Union, 8-midnight Friday; Stump Water Shine, 8-midnight Saturday. Washer tournament 1 p.m. Saturday (registration 12:30)

11-12 -- Lebanon Fire Department Homecoming Picnic: Friday and Saturday, West St. Louis St., Lebanon. Parade both nights, live music, carnival rides, games and food.

11-20 -- Randolph County Fair: Fairground, Sparta. Food, livestock, tractors and agricultural displays. Rides.

12-13 -- Contemporary Indian Art Show: 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Cahokia Mounds State Historic Site. More than 23 American Indian artists will display works of fine art, sculpture, jewelry, beadwork, pottery. Free admission.

13 -- World's Largest Catsup Bottle Birthday Party and Car Show: 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday, American Legion Post 365, 1022 Vandalia, Collinsville. Catsup tasting, hot dog-eating contest, Princess Tomato and Sir Catsup Pageant, food vendors, craft booths, pony rides, live music. Old-fashioned birthday party games for kids of all ages: musical chairs, please pass the catsup, Hula Hoop competition, water balloon toss, spin the catsup bottle. Classic and custom car, truck and motorcycle show.

13-19 -- Clinton County Fair: Clinton County Fairgrounds, 1890 Methodist, Carlyle.

16 -- Car Cruise: 4-9 p.m. Wednesday, Dandy Inn, U.S. 50 and Old Collinsville Road, Fairview Heights.

18-19 -- St. Jacob Homecoming: Friday and Saturday, St. Jacob. Parades with theme "On the Big Screen" at 7 p.m. Friday, 6:30 p.m. Saturday. Street dance.

20-27 -- Monroe County Fair: at the fairgrounds in Waterloo. Fair exhibits include farm implements, farm animals, arts and crafts. Carnival rides, food.

22-27 -- Madison County Fair: Fairground, Highland. Product displays, livestock, arts and crafts, carnival rides, food, music. Arena events include stock car races, tractor pull, demolition derby and 4-H Show.

23 -- Bluegrass in the Park: 7 p.m. Wednesday, New Baden City Park. George Portz & the Friends of Bluegrass. $7 admission.

23 -- Picnic in the Park: 7 p.m., Wednesday, Prairie du Rocher. Live music and food.

23 -- Car Cruise: 4-9 p.m. Wednesday, Dandy Inn, U.S. 50 and Old Collinsville Road, Fairview Heights.

25-26 -- Smithton Homecoming: Friday and Saturday, Turner Hall, 15 N. Julia, Smithton. Music, food, rides, games and bingo.

26 -- St. Joseph Catholic Church Picnic: Saturday, St. Joseph Catholic Church, Middle and Chartrand St., Prairie du Rocher. Fried chicken dinner s, 3 p.m. in air conditioned hall; carryouts available. Mass at 4:15 p.m. in St. Joseph Church. Homemade quilt and cash bingo, 6 p.m. Country store, crafts, games, kids games, raffle, food. Inflatables for kids. No personal coolers or lunch baskets allowed.

26-27 -- Great Train Expo: Saturday and Sunday, Belle-Clair Fairgrounds, Belleville.

27 -- St. Elizabeth Church Picnic: 11 a.m.-8 p.m. Sunday, St. Elizabeth Church grounds, North Windmill Street, Marine. Chicken dinner; adults $10, kindergarten through 10 years old, $4. Basket stand, country store, childrens games, bingo.

30 -- BackPACK to School: 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, Belleville West High School. Free. Vendors from local businesses and organizations offer information and giveaways. Kids activities and face painting. Bounce house and YMCA climbing wall. Backpack full of school supplies. Physicals. Complimentary hot dog, chips and drink. Open to children in kindergarten through grade 8 and their families from public and private Belleville schools. Presented by the Greater Belleville Chamber of Commerce Education Committee.

31 -- Back-to-School B.A.S.H.: 2-7 p.m. Thursday, Regency Conference Center, 400 Regency Park, O'Fallon. Backpack and Supplies Handout presented by Illinois PTA, Southern Region. Free afternoon of family fun, hands-on activities, exhibits, giveaways. Free backpacks and supplies while supplies last.
