VA help arrives, but too late

April 25, 2014

I again am taking to task the good old Veterans Administration. I do believe it is as bad as Obamacare.

Last December I was incapacitated to the point I couldn't walk. I was advised to get a stair chair lift installed on my basement stairs. I was told the VA would help with the financial end of it.

I got the necessary forms and sent them into the VA. I waited as long as I could to hear from the VA. Not a word for two months. I needed help so I called around to find a contractor. I found one in St. Louis and had the lift put in.

I went to U.S. Rep. John Shimkus' office and they immediately started working on my claim. I finally was contacted by the VA five months later and I was told the VA won't pay any part of the installation after it's installed. Big deal. I am supposed to sit in my apartment five months waiting for the VA just to contact me? No, thank you.

I must apologize to Shimkus' office for partially blaming them. I did tell the lady at the VA that I wasn't surprised at her ruling. The VA is so screwed up now and I don't want to bother them ever again.

I know how our Iraq vets feel when they come back home and have to fight for any type of assistance. All I can say is good luck.

What seems strange is our government seems to be able to find $100 million for other countries, $50 million for the UK, shopping trips for Michelle Obama and family, unnecessary overseas trips by President Obama, $6 billion lost by Hillary Clinton's department when she was Secretary of State.

I could go on but to no avail. I feel better already.
