1 -- Immaculate Conception Church Labor Day Picnic: 11 a.m.-9:30 p.m. Monday, 117 East Madison at Main Street, Columbia. Quilt/cash bingo, Fried chicken dinners (Adults $10; children $5), homemade pie. Used book store, plants, crafts, country store, games for all ages. Festival food, live music.

1 -- Labor Day Parade. Downtown Belleville.

3 -- Car Cruise: 4-9 p.m. Wednesday, Dandy Inn, U.S. 50 and Old Collinsville Road, Fairview Heights.

5-6 -- St. Stephen Parish Festival: 5-11 p.m. Friday and Saturday, St. Stephen Catholic Church, 901 S. Main St., Caseyville. Fried chicken dinner 4-8 p.m. both days. Silent auction, raffles, bingo, childrens games and rides.

5-6 -- The Girlz Gathering: 4-8 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, Belle-Clair Exposition Center, 200 South Belt East, Belleville. Features Tasting is Fun, Pamper Your Body and At Your Service. Prizes every half-hour. More than 100 vendors catering to women shoppers.

6 -- St. Joseph Parish Picnic: St. Joseph Church, Freeburg. Mass, 4 p.m. Quilt bingo, 6 p.m. Festival food. Kids activities, basket stand, quilt raffle, country store, I Dood It game.

10 -- Car Cruise: 4-9 p.m. Wednesday, Dandy Inn, U.S. 50 and Old Collinsville Road, Fairview Heights. First 100 cars get free commemorative plaques.

12-14 -- Okawville Fair and Wheat Festival: 5-midnight Friday, 11 a.m.-midnight Saturday, 11 a.m.-9 p.m. Sunday, Okawville. Carnival rides. On Friday: Music by J. Christopher, Most Dangerous One Man Band, 8-midnight. On Saturday: Washer tournament, 1 p.m.; antique tractor pull, 2 p.m.; Venedy Band, 4:30-6 p.m.; bingo, 5-10; Hillbilly Authority, 8-midnight. On Sunday, Float Parade, 2 p.m.; Okawville High School band concert, 4 p.m.; bingo, 4-9 p.m.; music by Third Shot, 6-9 p.m.

13 -- St. Augustine of Canterbury Picnic: 4-midnight, 1910 W. Belle, Belleville. Polka music; Mike & Ray at 4 p.m.; music by Freefall, 8 p,m.; kids rides, inflatables, games for all ages, quilt bingo, 7 p.m.; chicken dinner, 2:30 p.m. Outside food and beverages.

13 -- Atlatl Competition: 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, Cahokia Mounds State Historic Site, Collinsville. Missouri Atlatl Association will hold its annual competition with these ancient, spear-throwing device behind the Interpretive Center.

13-14 -- American Indian Educational Days, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Cahokia Mounds State Historic Site, Collinsville. Displays and booths with crafts, clothing, explanations of customs, culture and beliefs. Activities.

17 -- Car Cruise: 4-9 p.m. Wednesday, Dandy Inn, U.S. 50 and Old Collinsville Road, Fairview Heights.

19-20 -- Collinsville Italian Fest: 11 a.m.-10 p.m. Friday, 11 a.m.-10 p.m. Saturday, uptown Collinsville. Parade, 4 p.m. Saturday; theme is "Eat Up, Italian Style." On Friday, naturalization ceremony, 10 a.m.; opening and tapping of the keg, 5 p.m. Crafts, petting zoo, childrens area, food. Entertainment: Bob Kuban, The Beach Boys, on Friday; Confederate Railroad Roots and Boots Tour with Sammy Kershaw, Aaron Tippen, Darryl Worley on Saturday; LoCash Cowboys on Sunday.

20 -- Lincoln Place Heritage Festival: 11 a.m.-6 p.m., Lincoln Place Community Center, 822 Niedringhaus Ave., Granite City. Armenian, Macedonian and Bulgarian ethnic food and pastries or sale. Free continuous entertainment featuring dancers, vocalists and music from Russia, Bulgaria, Macedonia, Armenia, Mexico, Spain, Scotland. Celtic harp, Appalacian Mountain dulcimer and Italian opera selections. Historic exhibits. Magician, juggler. Eastern European folk costumes display. Macedonian folk beading demonstration. Children's area with face painting, balloon twisting, playground and childen's books or sale. Apple pie contest. Free admission.

20-21 -- Firemen's BBQ: Saturday and Sunday, Prairie du Rocher. Phantom 5K Run on Saturday. Car show on Sunday.

20-21 -- Fort Kaskaskia Traditional Music Festival: Saturday and Sunday, Ellis Grove.

21 -- Creole House Open House: 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Sunday, Creole House Historic Site, Prairie du Rocher. Guided tours of French-American transitional home.

21 -- Fall Equinox Sunrise Observance: 6:30 a.m. Woodhenge, Cahokia Mounds State Historic Site, Collinsville. Hear an explanation of the discovery, form and function of this ancient post circle monument used as a calendar by the Mississippians. Free. No ceremonies will be conducted.

24 -- Car Cruise: 4-9 p.m. Wednesday, Dandy Inn, U.S. 50 and Old Collinsville Road, Fairview Heights. Bring in any four of the five plaques given during the summer and receive $25 in Dandy Inn certificates.

26 -- St. Clare Brauhaus: 7-11 p.m. Friday, St. Clare School gym, Third and Cherry Streets, O'Fallon. Authentic Bavarian beer hall with German music, dancing, snacks, and imported beer and wine at a cash bar. Free admission, 21 and older.

27 -- St. Clair Oktoberfest: 4-11 p.m. Saturday, St. Clare School and grounds, Third and Cherry Streets, O'Fallon. Fun Run/Walk, German dinner, carnival foods, beer and wine garden, kids games and inflatables, bingo, basket raffles, games of chance, live music.

26-28 -- Greek Festival: Friday-Sunday, St. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church, 405 Huntwood Road, Swansea. Homemade Greek food and pastries, live music, bazaar featuring Greek merchandise and food.

28 -- Biddleborn Schlachtfest and Wurstmarkt: Sunday, Trinity United Church of Christ, 5698 Biddleborn Road, Marissa. Serving grilled pork sausage, mashed potatoes, sauerkraut, sides, beverages and desserts from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Adults $10; 6-12 $5; 5 and under free. Sponsored by Trinity UCC-Biddleborn and Cemetery Association. Country store, quilt raffles, games and meat sales (advance orders by Aug. 15; Ray Swedo 618-443-7931 or Jan Dietrich 618-295-2030). 28 -- Artifact Identification Day: noon-4 p.m. Sunday, Cahokia Mounds State Historic Site, Collinsville. Archeologists identify Indian artifacts for the public as to culture, time period, material and function. No monetary appraisals will be given. Free.
