John Bailey said he anticipates opening Flamingo's on May 9. Bailey's business is reoccupying the former Maxwell's Restaurant at 923 W. Main St. in Belleville with some of the old favorites featured on Maxwell's menu during that restaurant's 36-year run. Bailey said he is initially opening on Fridays and Saturdays. A deck has built for outdoor dining. His restaurant is named for the flock of plush pink and lawn ornamental flamingos that adorned the dining rooms during Maxwell's heyday and remain on site.
The Pasta House Co. in Fairview Heights has reopened with a new menu and name. The restaurant at 4660 N. Illinois St. is now known as Gus's Place and carries a few new items on the menu while still retaining some of the pasta dishes and salads from The Pasta House Co. Restaurant owner Frank Ferrara said the Fairview Heights restaurant is the only one of the St. Louis-based Italian eateries to make this change because it was not consistently attracting enough business. The menu at Gus's Place includes burgers, craft beers and a number of new appetizers, such as homemade corn dog chunks, jumbo chicken wings, pretzel sticks and fried pickle chips.
Advance Auto Parts is planning to open a new store in Fairview Heights on June 5. The auto parts retailer is setting up shop at a 6,600-square-foot space in Plaza St. Clair, located just west of Schnucks.
