Nashville High graduate and Southern Illinois University Carbondale softball player Shaye Harre was named Missouri Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week after hitting .471 last week with a .706 slugging percentage and .500 on-base percentage.

Harre had a clutch two-out RBI in a 2-1 win over Wichita State, and had a double, a home run and five RBIs. Through 48 games, Harre is hitting .336 with 12 doubles, two triples, five homers and 42 RBIs.

Harre's 42 RBIs ranks second in the MVC and already ranks eighth in SIUC history. Among Saluki freshmen, only teammate Taylor Orsburn's 49 RBIs in 2011 is higher.

Harre is also 3-5 as a pitcher in 17 games. The Salukis (27-21) close out the regular season with a three-game home series this weekend against Indiana State.
