SIUE storm damages estimated at less than $20K

— Storm damage at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville will be quickly repaired and the work is expected to cost less than $20,000, according to university officials.

The storms that swept through the metro-east on Monday caused damage to several buildings at SIUE.

A window at the top of a stairwell in Alumni Hall was shattered. That opening has been temporarily closed off with plywood, and the building was open Tuesday for business as usual, according to spokesman Doug McIlhagga.

Meanwhile, there was flooding in some buildings and halls. "The rest was minor leakage mostly caused by storm drains that couldn't quite handle the volume of rain," McIlhagga said.

While several roads on the campus were waterlogged or nearly flooded out, McIlhagga said the water leakage in Founders Hall and other buildings was quickly mopped by staff on duty.
