McKendree earns first NCAA berth

— The McKendree University men's tennis team earned its first-ever berth into the NCAA Tournament on Tuesday night.

The Bearcats are currently 19-6 overall and will play in May 3-6 the Midwest Regional No. 2 in Indianapolis, Ind.

McKendree is the No. 6 seed and will play No. 3 seed Northwood University (Mich.) in the first round. The Timberwolves claimed the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championship this past weekend and are 17-3 overall this season.

"We're excited to be going to Indianapolis to play Northwood," said head coach Adam Reeb. "It's a nice accomplishment for this special group of young men to qualify for the NCAA Tournament in our first year of eligibility. We're going to give it our all and try to keep our season going and make it to the the finals in Florida."

The winner will advance to the second round to play the winner of No. 2 seed University of Indianapolis and No. 7 seed University of Missouri-St. Louis.

The regional champion will advance the NCAA Championship on May 14-17 in Altamonte Springs, Fla., at Sanlando Park.
