Classes offered at Sparta shooting complex

A free introduction to skeet shooting class with Clif Howell will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday on skeet fields 15-16 at the World Shooting and Recreation Complex, 1 Main Event Lane, Sparta.

all participants must bring their firearms, ammunition and eye and ear protection. To register, call 618-295-2700, extension 8300.

After the program, targets may be purchased who wish to shoot. Personnel will be available to pull targets and monitor safety.

For youth and ladies

The Illinois Department of Natural Resources is offering free introductory clinics for ladies and youth for shooting aerial targets May 17 and 18 (choose one) at the World Shooting and Recreational Complex in Sparta.

The clinics are for ladies of any age, and for youth 10 to 16 years old. Youth shooters must weight at least 75 pounds and be at least 4-foot-8.

The clinics provide soft recoiling shotguns for student use that have been modified to fit smaller shooters. Ammunition and clay targets also are provided for each shooter. Participants will need eye and ear protection.

Students will be place in groups of four, and will work with a certified bolunteer instructor in learning gun safety, weapon handling and techniques used tto successfully break clay targets. Skills learned can be transferred to hunting situations in the field.

Check-in will be from 8 to 9 each day. Clinics will begin at 9 and end in midafternoon.
