EDWARDSVILLE — For the first time in school history, Southern Illinois University Edwardsville will be hosting an Ohio Valley Conference Championship event when it plays host to the 2014 OVC Outdoor Track and Field Championship this weekend at Korte Stadium.
Single-day tickets will be $10 for adults and $5 for students.
The two-day meet will begin Friday with field events at noon and track events at 3 p.m. On Saturday, field events begin at 11 a.m. and track events start at 2 p.m. Both days also will feature multi events (decathlon, heptathlon) at 9 a.m.
The meet will be streamed in its entirety on the OVC Digital Network.
SIUE competed in its first-ever OVC Championship last season with both the indoor and outdoor meet held at Eastern Illinois in Charleston.
The Cougars had a number of athletes on the podium a year ago, as SIUE crowned OVC Champions in five events while claiming All-Conference performers (first, second, or third place) in 20 events.
For the men, Darius Smith (100m), Braxton Klavins (400m), Josh Thomas (400m hurdles), and the 4x100m relay team of Smith, Klavins, Ahmad Evans and Davinn Smith all took home conference titles a season ago. On the women's side, Jatavia Wright took first place in the triple jump.
Eastern Illinois is the defending OVC Outdoor Champion for both men's and women's team competition. As a team, the Cougars finished third on the men's side a year ago, while the SIUE women placed fourth.
