Investigators are trying to determine the cause of an overnight fire in Cahokia.

The blaze started just after 9:30 p.m. in a red brick home in the 3400 block of Belleview Avenue. The house was severely damaged by the flames.

Before they could be put out the building's roof collapsed.

According to authorities, the house was abandoned but a homeless person had been staying there. That person was not in the building when the fire was discovered.
