A Collinsville man now faces upgraded charges in connection with the death of a New Baden man whose body was found in a Washington Park home in 2008.

Jason M. Cowley, 37, was charged with first-degree murder Tuesday in the death of 47-year-old Eric J. Mollet.

Cowley originally was charged with concealment of a homicidal death.

Another man, Lortez D. Thomas, 35, of Washington Park, was charged with murder in 2008 in connection with Mollet's death. Thomas' trial date is set for May 19.

Cowley was charged with murder under what is called a theory of accountability.

St. Clair County State's Attorney Brendan Kelly said, "We often charge a defendant under a theory of accountability when we have multiple defendants in a murder case."

Mollet's body was found in November 2008 in a home in the 1800 block of North 60th Street in Washington Park after the house had burned.
