What's out there: Kids' caps, colorful trivets and magniifying glass

May 4, 2014

Kids hats: While these baseball caps ($7.99) are as cute as can be at CVS Pharmacy in Swansea, it's what you can't see that will keep small noggins safe this summer. The cap has a curtain of matching fabric that extends down the elasticized back to cover the neck and prevent sun exposure. Two small Velcro tabs also allow you to roll up and secure the fabric when not in use.

Colorful trivets: It may be the perfect summer trivet: It's colorful, silicone covered and folds up so it's easy to carry along to a picnic or outdoor party. These trivets ($6.99) can be found at Bed, Bath & Beyond in Fairview Heights. Bonus: The silicone legs not only protect surfaces but can handle heat up to 500 degrees.

Magnifying glass: As a home decor accessory, magnifying glasses have become quite popular again. Once found on every desk in the 1800s, these vintage replicas have handles that range from carved faux ebony and horn to rope and ceramic. You'll find a wide variety of choices at Tuesday Morning in Fairview Heights. Each is $7.99.
