Disaster training sessions planned this month in Belleville

Four Community Emergency Response Team disaster preparedness training sessions will be held this month in Belleville.

CERT officials will train residents on how to assist victims in the event of a disaster, when a community's professional emergency responders might be overwhelmed or delayed.

The class covers disaster medical assistance, light search and rescue, fire safety, terrorism response and disaster psychology.

The training is at the Garden Heights Baptist Church, 1897 Mascoutah Ave. in Belleville.

The sessions are from: 7 to 10 p.m. Friday; 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday; 7 to 10 p.m. May 16; and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. May 17.

Anyone older than age 12 may apply. The sessions are free.
