Mid State Bass Anglers

Collinsville man wins first place in tourney

Paul Riepe, of Collinsville, took first place in the Mid State Bass Anglers tournament May 3 at Lake Kinkaid with a catch of 7.60 pounds.

Brad Garland, of Freeburg, was second with 6.79 pounds.Brad Scheuer, of Belleville, took third place with 6.49 pounds.

Jeff Schult, of Waterloo, caught the 4.17-pound big bass.

High school fishing

State tournament this Friday and Saturday

Two teams from Highland and one each from Granite City, Waterloo, Belleville West and Carlyle will compete in the State Final Bass Fishing Tournament Friday and Saturday at Carlyle Lake.

Fishing competition is from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. both days, followed by weigh-in on the Main Stage at the Marina Boat Ramp. Awards will be presented at 4:30 p.m. Saturday.

A Bass Celebration, beginning at 2 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. Saturday, is open to the public both days in the marina parking lot. It includes fishing vendors, food vendors and boat and truck displays.

A kids fishing derby being at 10 a.m. Saturday at Fish Hatchery Park in Carlyle; winners will be announced at 3 p.m.

Admission is free.

Metro-east teams competing in the state finals are:

Belleville West: Gabe Cullen, Benji McBride and Conner Burns

Highland No. 1: Garrett Koeppler, Cole Paar Fusser and Nicholas Meyer

Highland No. 2: Eric Luitjohan, Austin Niggli and Michael Frank

Granite City: Eddie Lemman and Jonathon Ozanich

Waterloo: Emily Whelan, Jeff Feilner, Avery Wheat and Carter Pate
