Belleville East grad honored at Quincy

Belleville East graduate Kenny May from Fairview Heights recently became the first Quincy University baseball player to earn Great Lakes Valley Conference Baseball Player of the Week honors since 2012.

May was honored further by being selected National Collegiate Baseball Writers Assocation Midwest Region Player of the Week. On Wednesday, May also was named to the All-GLVC Second Team for the second straight season.

The senior shortstop was 10-for-19 with 10 RBIs and seven runs scores, collecting three doubles and a triple.

May is hitting .296 through 50 games with 11 doubles, two triples, 25 RBIs and a team-leading 37 runs scored. Quincy (26-24) plays Missouri-St. Louis (25-22) Thursday at the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament in Evansville, Ind.

* Edwardsville High graduate Zach Sedlacek, a junior pitcher at Missouri-St. Louis, also was a second-team All-GLVC pick. He has the team's best record at 5-1 and has won his last four starts, striking out 51 in 57 innings with a 2.84 ERA for the Tritons (25-22).
