Charter Communications restored Internet service Friday after local customers reported problems with their service for several hours.

Customers from across the metro-east including Belleville, Caseyville, Fairview Heights, O'Fallon and Scott Air Force Base, initially reported problems with their service first noticed about 1:30 a.m. Friday. They complained about slow speeds or, in some cases, their Internet connection failing altogether.

Charter spokesman Wes Shirley said technicians fixed the problem by Friday afternoon.

"The outage has been resolved and all of our customers have service restored at this time," Shirley said.

There is no word on what caused the problem.
