Two East St. Louis football players nominated for U.S. All-American Bowl

East St. Louis High junior Terry Beckner, Jr., considered one of the top defensive line recruits in the nation, and Flyers teammate Natereace Strong were both among seven Illinois players nominated for the U.S. All-American Bowl on Friday.

Those nominated will have a chance to play in the game, set for noon Jan. 3, 2015 in San Antonio, Texas and televised nationally on NBC.

Athletes were nominated by a committee that includes All American Games, 24/7 Sports and a network of coaches throughout the country.

Among the 400 nominees, 90 will be chosen to play in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl,

Beckner (6-foot-4, 298 pounds) is ranked fourth in the nation at his position and is considered the 35th overall best recruit in the country by Rivals.com. He's also considered the No. 1 defensive end in Illinois.

Among the schools that have offered Beckner are Auburn, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Michigan, Nebraska, USC, Missouri, Illinois, Tennessee and numerous others.

Strong recently made a verbal commitment to Missouri.
