Police have not been able to identify the man shot and killed Thursday while allegedly breaking into a home outside Millstadt.

St. Clair County sheriff's deputies found the suspected burglar dead near a vehicle parked in the driveway of the home at 2113 Imbs Station Road. The suspect died from a single shot from the homeowner's handgun.

Authorities have fingerprinted the suspect and performed an autopsy, but have not been able to identify the man, according to Capt. Scott Weymouth with the Sheriff's Department. The license plate on the vehicle the suspect drove to the home is not registered to the deceased man.

Police previously said the homeowner, a 72-year-old widower, is not likely to face charges in the incident.

The burglary on Thursday was the third one reported at the home.
