Thunderstorms, much cooler temperatures expected this week

The above-average temperatures metro-east residents have enjoyed for the last week will hang around one more day.

But the mercury will drop dramatically after that, according to the National Weather Service.

On Monday the high will be 85 with a 40 percent chance of thunderstorms throughout the daytime hours. Winds will gust up to 28 mph.

Overnight the chance of storms will increase to 80 percent with a slight chance that weather could become severe with strong winds and hail. The low will drop to 61.

A 70 percent chance of showers will remain Tuesday with a high temperature of 66. Tuesday evening the chance of rain will drop to 40 percent and the low temperature will be 53.

The mercury will reach only 58 Wednesday, when there will be a 70 percent chance of showers.
