Meet winery owner, enjoy patio party Food Briefs

Where: The Cheesekeeper, Arcades Shopping Center, 6600 W. Main St., Belleville

Features: Daniel Benton, owner and winemaker of Crozes Winery in Napa Valley, California, will be pouring his wines and signing bottles. Also will feature wines from Oak Ridge Winery, Lodi, California. All wines sampled are 15 percent off the regular price, day of tasting only.

Perfect Patio Party

When: 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday

Where: Eckert's Country Store classroom, 951 S. Green Mount Road, Belleville

Features: Celebrate spring and taste a patio-perfect menu. Learn about brining meats for the best kabobs on the block. Old-Fashion Potato Salad, Deviled Eggs with Herbs and Perfectly Roasted Asparagus will delight your taste buds. Top it all off with Chilled Strawberry Cream and Pound Cake.

Flower Power

What: Kids Cooking Class, for ages 5-12. (Mom and Dad are free.)

When: 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday

Where: Eckert's Country Store classroom, 951 S. Greenmount Road, Belleville

Features: Apple and peach buds must bloom before transforming into fruit. Celebrate the season by crafting a fruit flower, making ice cream muffins and a fruitilicious dip, and putting together a butterfly snack mix. Put your tastebuds to the test with an experiment, too. Participants will plant a flower to take home to grow.

April Showers Bring May Flowers

What: Mommy & Me class for ages 2-5. (Mom and Dad are free.)

When: 9:30 to 11 a.m. Saturday

Features: Spring is in full bloom, and we'll be busy little bees in the cooking classroom as we piece together a fruit flower, measure out ice cream muffins and flutter away with a butterfly snack mix. Children will also plant their very own flower to take home.

Barbecue open house

When: 5 to 8 p.m. Friday

Where: L'Ecole Culinaire, 9811 South Forty Drive, St. Louis

Features: Enjoy a backyard barbecue where guests will learn about the new ways to barbecue, make their own rub (and be able to take it home). Complimentary samples from a variety of regional styles of barbecue will be served.
