SWIC, LU-Belleville reveal dates for summer camps

With the school year coming to an end, Southwestern Illinois College has announced the dates for its summer sports camps. Kids are invited to learn the basics of basketball or volleyball and receive a Blue Storm T-shirt for attending! All camps will be held at the Belleville Campus, 2500 Carlyle Ave.

There will be two basketball camps offered. The first set of camps will be held on Wednesdays, May 7- July 16 (except May 28). The camp will run 6-7 p.m. for 5-8th grade boys, 7-8 p.m. for 4-7th grade girls and 8-9 p.m. for 8-12th grade girls. Attend any or all sessions for $10 each.

The second set of basketball camps will be for 1-3rd grade boys and girls. The first session will run Fridays, May 9-30, from 6-7 p.m. The second session will run Fridays, June 6-27, from 6-7 p.m. The cost is $45.

Beginning volleyball skills will be taught to boys and girls, ages 11-15, June 4-5 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Fundamental volleyball skills will be taught to boys and girls, ages 13-16, June 17-18, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. A volleyball camp for girls teams, ages 15-17, will be held June 30, 9 a.m. to noon, and July 1, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Each team will receive a SWIC coach and the cost is $65 per camp.

Lindenwood University-Belleville

The Goodson Basketball Pro Skills Academy for boys and girls in grades 4-12 will be held May 29-31 at Lindenwood University-Belleville.

Cost is $165.

The curriculum features intense pro workouts, NBA moves and concepts, two- and three-ball dribbling drills, advanced shooting drills, position work, strength and conditioning drills, passing and pressure, screen work, motion principles and motivation and leadership exercises.

Leading the sessions will be Ryan Goodson, an NBA skills trainer, Jordan Brand Classic Trainer and an international clinician, who trained a 2012 McDonald's All-American. He was the 2011 director of the Stephen Curry Skills Academy and a clinician at the 2011 Antawn Jamison All Star Camp. His You Tube videos received 2 million views in 2013.
