Hit-and-run fugitive arrested in Iowa hails from metro-east

A Wood River man has been found in Iowa after he allegedly struck and killed a child with his car and then fled the area.

According to police reports, Philip Evans, 34, struck and killed a 2-year-old girl at about 9:30 Saturday in the parking lot of a motel in southeast Iowa. He fled the scene but later returned and was arrested.

Evans was charged with vehicular manslaughter. Authorities in Iowa said Evans posted bond and has been released from jail.
