— A 35-year-old Bond County woman is facing charges after police say she left her 10-month-old son in a hotel room while she drank and possibly used drugs on Mother's Day.

Jennifer L. Hawes, of Sorento, was arrested and charged with endangering the life of a child early Sunday morning after police received a call from a Caseyville hotel manager reporting a crying baby.

Caseyville Detective Gerard Spratt said police were called at 1:30 a.m. to the America's Best Hotel. When officers arrived and knocked on Hawe's room door, there was no answer.

The manager unlocked the room and police were allowed in.

"We found the 10 month old baby boy alone in the room," Spratt said.

Hawes was later found by police in the hallway intoxicated and possibly under the influence of drugs.

The Department of Children and Family Services was contacted and the child was turned over to them.

Spratt said the infant remains under the DCFS care while the department conducts an investigation.

It was not immediately known whether Hawes came to Caseyville alone for Mother's Day, or whether she was just visiting the area.
