East St. Louis police investigate 2 homicides

— Police have no suspects as they investigate the city's sixth and seventh homicides of the year.

Police were called about 2:15 a.m. Saturday to a report of shots fired at the Roosevelt Homes, Apt. 17A, 1328 N. 44th St.

The victim, Willie D. Jackson, appeared to have been shot once in the head from a stray bullet, said Police Chief Michael Floore.

Jackson's 19th birthday was Friday.

"It appears that the bullet was intended for another person," Floore said. "We are still investigating the case."

In a separate shooting Sunday, police responded to a report of shots fired in the 400 block of North 29th Street.

When police arrived, they found a 35-year-old man who had been shot in the head. The victim later was identified as Roderick Brady, of 405 N. 29th St.

"It appears that a dice game was going on and an argument ensued during the game," Floore said. "However, we are still investigating this case, as well."
