St. Clair County taxpayers draw the short straw

May 15, 2014

St. Clair County says it is fiscally responsible, and the county has slimmed down its budget and reduced its property tax levy -- and on the other hand did a tax shift. That will still take more money from homeowners and business in county fees.

In the long term the county will be increasing its budget instead of holding the line on it. While it sounds good, it makes the county unfriendly to the taxpayers.

So no matter, people won't see any reduction in their property taxes but they will see an increase in fees. And people will hear from the taxing bodies that they are short on funds and need more. I think most taxpayers could use more, but they don't have a levy to use.
