Wesclin, Okawville and Roxana will play for regional titles

Kyle Eversgerd slammed the door on the Greenville Comets, allowing four hits and striking out four Thursday to help Wesclin reach its own Class 2A Regional championship with a 4-1 semifinal victory.

Eversgerd (4-4) also was 2-for-2 at the plate for the Warriors while Brendan Bernhardt and Ryan Meddows each had run-scoring hits.

Wesclin broke open a 1-1 game by scoring three times in the top of the sixth inning. The Warriors (21-13) will face the upset-minded Central Cougars (12-19) in the regional championship at 11 a.m. Saturday at Trenton City Park.

Central knocked off Mater Dei and top-seeded Carlyle to reach the championship game.

Wesclin beat Central 16-3 on April 15, but Central won the last meeting 7-3 on May 1.

Okawville 5, Valmeyer 4

Okawville edged Valmeyer 5-4 to reach the championship game of the Class 1A New Athens Regional. The Rockets (10-14) will face the host New Athens Yellow Jackets (15-17) for the title at 1 p.m. Saturday.

Roxana 7, Staunton 0

Logan Reardon fired a no-hitter and struck out 14 as the Roxana Shells defeated Staunton to reach the title game of the Class 2A Metro-East Lutheran Regional. Roxana (14-15) will face Southwestern (22-11) for the championship at 10 a.m. Saturday.
