Belleville West cruises to baseball regional win over Granite City

Belleville West senior right-hander Parker Beine tossed a two-hit shutout and struck out seven Monday as the Maroons slammed Granite City 13-0 in a first-round game at the Class 4A Belleville East Baseball Regional.

The Maroons (16-16) advance to the regional semifinals and will face top-seeded O'Fallon (32-3) at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Belleville East.

West's Jacob Wilson went 3-for-3 with two doubles and four RBIs and Spencer Piquard was 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. West scored four runs in the first and put things out of reach with nine more runs in the fourth inning, chasing Granite City starter Gabe Jarman.

John Dozier was 2-for-4 with a double and RBI for Belleville West and Beine was 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Ethan Lewis had two hits and an RBI and Zach Skaer added an RBI.

Bruce Drennan and Chad Spanberger had the lone hits for Granite City, which ended its season 15-21.
