Power back on after outage in downtown Belleville

News-DemocratMay 28, 2014

Power was restored about 2 p.m. Tuesday after an equipment failure caused a power outage along South Illinois Street in downtown Belleville.

About 75 customers in the downtown area were left without power about 10:30 a.m., according to Ameren spokesman Brian Bretsch.

An effort to reroute power was able to restore electricity to all but seven businesses, including the Belleville News-Democrat, which had its electricity restored about 2 p.m.

The outage was blamed on a snapped power line on West Lincoln Street near the Cathedral School playground.
