Edwardsville advances with no-hitter; New Athens stays alive in the sectional

Edwardsville's Daniel Lloyd and Jordan Hovey combined on a no-hitter Wednesday as the Tigers advanced to the Class 4A Alton Regional championship with an 8-0 semifinal victory over Pekin.

Lloyd tossed the first six innings and Hovey closed out the game by pitching a hitless, scoreless seventh for the Tigers (29-6). Mitchell Krebs had a double and three RBIs for Edwardsville, including a two-out RBI double in the second, while jacob Fishe was 2-for-2 with a double and two RBIs.

The Tigers added six runs in the fifth.

New Athens 3, Nokomis 2

New Athens reached the championship game of the Class 1A Carlinville Sectional with a semifinal victory over Nokomis at Blackburn College

Nick Ozier went five innings to pick up the win and got relief help from Brandon Contratto, who pitched the final two innings to earn a save

Contratto was 2-for-3 with a double and Tyler Brandenburger had a double and RBI for New Athens. Tyler Meyer was 1-for-3 with an RBI.

New Athens (17-17) will face the winner of Thursday's other semifinal game between Lebanon (12-15) and North Greene in the title game at 1 p.m. Saturday.

Teutopolis 14, Wesclin 1

At the Class 2A Greenville Sectional Teutopolis used a 10-run innings to pound out a victory over the Wesclin Warriors.

Mascoutah 11, Cahokia 0

Collin Renth was 3-or-4 with a double, triple and two RBIs and Ryan Netemeyer had a double and three RBIs as Mascoutah cruised into the Class 3A Waterloo Regional title game.


Dupo 9, Pleasant Plains 0

The Dupo Tigers kept rolling through the Class 1A playoffs at the Litchfield Sectional as Megan Brown tossed a one-hit shutout with five strikeouts and Skylure Barlow and Rachael Donald went a combined 6-for-8 with five RBIs.

Dupo (29-7), which pounded out 15 hits, will face Williamsville for the sectional title at 11 a.m. Saturday.

Nashville 3, Harrisburg 0

Maci Ingram tossed a three-hit shutout and struck out 16 and Bria Winchester crushed a two-run homer in the fourth to break a scoreless tie as Nashville reached the Class 2A Johnston City Sectional championship with a win over Harrisburg.

Jordi Harre added an RBI single for the Hornettes (35-2), who will face Southern Illinois River-to-River Mississippi Division rival Carterville for the sectional title at 11 a.m. Saturday.

The teams split two games, with Carterville winning 2-0 and Nashville winning 3-2.
