— An East St. Louis man was charged Friday with first-degree murder in connection with the shooting death of another East St. Louis man on May 19.

Treveon E. Burrage, 22, of 2141 St. Louis Avenue, is accused of shooting Joseph Griggs in the head.

Burrage was being held in the St. Clair County Jail in lieu of $500,000 bail.

East St. Louis Detective Darlene Diggs said video surveillance helped police identify the suspect.

Diggs said police received a call in the early morning hours on May 19 in reference to shots fired, man down in the area of 12th Street and Gaty Avenue. A woman who was on her way home that night saw Griggs' body laying in the street and called 911.

Police officers found Griggs' body laying on the ground in a fetal position.

Diggs said a deputy coroner pronounced Griggs dead at the scene.

Diggs investigated the case along with the Illinois State Police.
