New coordinator brings passion for home to new post

June 2, 2014

Troy resident Amanda Hornacek wants to help her community grow and flourish. She has recently come on board in a newly created position at the Leadership Council Southwestern Illinois. The council is a member-based, economic development corporation representing Madison and St. Clair counties. Hornacek recently invited business reporter Will Buss to her office and talked about her new position:

Q: What are your duties?

A: "This is the second position at the Leadership Council. I'll be doing office coordination, working with membership and communications."

Q: How long have you been on the job?

A: "About a month."

Q: What is your background?

A: "I worked at Beverly Farm for a year and was a community relations manager. It's in Godfrey, Ill., and is a home for individuals with intellectual disabilities. Before that, I was at 1st Mid-America Credit Union, which was formally Olin Community Credit Union, where I was the marketing specialist. I did all aspects of marketing, campaigns, design and communications."

Q: Why did you come to work for the Leadership Council?

A: "I am a Glen Carbon native. I have lived here my entire life, in Madison County. The Leadership Council works to unite this region for growth. When you grow up in an area, you want to see the community grow and do very well. So I have a passion for the area."

Q: What goals do you have in your new position?

A: "It is a newly created position, so my goal is to help the region grow with our board members and go in that direction. I believe in the mission of the Leadership Council."

Q: How many members are on the council?

A: "Around 175 members."

Q: How long has the council served the metro-east?

A: "Since '83. For 31 years."

Q: How have you been involved in the council?

A: "Being here only a month, I'm not on a whole lot of projects, yet. I'm just trying to learn everything at the moment."

Q: What have you enjoyed most about your new job?

A: "I would say it's our mission. I keep going back to that. We're here to unite the region for growth."
