A decades old metro-east Italian restaurant will be relocating soon.

Mungo's will move to O'Fallon later this summer. Owner Tony Mazzola said the new location in the shopping center next to the O'Fallon 15 Cine movie theater, on the northeast corner of Central Park Plaza and Hartman Lane, is larger and more visible than his current locale near St. Clair Square.

"Being at seven different locations in this area, you see that this area right here is not developing as quickly as up there in O'Fallon," Mazzola said. "With the mall here and everybody buying products on the computer, no one comes to the mall as much as they used to."

Mazzola opened at 525 Lincoln Highway in Fairview Heights in 2002. He first opened Mungo's on Belleville's West Main Street in 1983. His Sicilian family is from The Hill in St. Louis and he has brought his recipes with him at every stop.

He said the new location is expected to open by July or August and will include the same menu, except pizza will be served. He also plans to add lunch-time hours seven days a week.
