Former St. Louis Cardinals RHP Jason Marquis signed by Philadelphia Phillies

The Philadelphia Phillies have announced that they have signed former St. Louis Cardinals starting pitcher Jason Marquis.

The 35-year-old has been out since July because of a torn ligament in his pitching elbow. He was 9-5 with a 4.05 ERA last season before he broke down.

Philadelphia, should Marquis make it back to the major leagues, will be the ninth different franchise for which the righthander has pitched. But he had his greatest success -- by far -- with the Redbirds for whom he won 42 games from 2004-06. His next-highest win total with another club was the 23 games he won for the Cubs in 2007-08.

Marquis, who is 121-114 for his career with a 4.56 ERA, also pitched for Atlanta, Colorado, Washington, Arizona, Minnesota and San Diego.
