Swansea heroin suspect is found, then arraigned

News-DemocratJune 3, 2014

A Swansea man sought by Caseyville Police over the weekend in a heroin case was arraigned Monday on a felony charge.

Thomas C. Wangelin III, 31, of 1808 N. 16th St., Swansea, was arraigned Monday and released on bond. He was charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance containing less than 15 grams of a substance containing heroin.

Wangelin and his brother, Adam Wangelin, 24, of 4 Tanewood Court in Belleville, were found passed out in a car last month on the parking lot of the Caseyville Dairy Queen.

Police were called to check on them and found that one of them had a needle in his arm, Interim Police Chief Scott Miller said. Miller said when police searched the vehicle, they found drugs.

Both Wangelin brothers were taken to Memorial Hospital in Belleville for treatment. They were released from the hospital pending charges.

Charges were issued last week and Adam Wangelin was arrested at his home, but Thomas Wangelin was not at his residence. Police had been looking for Thomas Wangelin before he was arraigned.
