Root, root, root for the home team at Collinsville's Horseradish Festival

Horseradsh will be king again this weekend at Woodland Park in Collinsville.

Collinsville produces approximately 60 percent of the world's horseradish each year, which is reason enough to celebrate.

It will take three days -- 6-10 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m.-10 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Sunday -- to pack in all the events, music, kids activities, craft village and food the International Horseradish Festival has to offer. The hot root itself will be the center of attention inr in root toss, root golf, root sacking, the horseradish recipe contest and the Horseradish Root Derby. contests. Admission, parking and musical entertainment are free.

On Friday, you'll even have a chance to see Collinsville from up high as the ReMax Hot Air Balloon returns to the celebration.

Here is the schedule:

Friday

6 p.m. Opening ceremonies and root grinding demonstration

6-10 p.m. hot air balloon rides, weather permitting

6:30-10 p.m. The Avery Hill Band; root grinding demonstration during the break

Saturday

8 a.m. 5K Run/Walk; beer and souvenir stands open.

11:30 a.m. rood grinding demonstration

noon-4 p.m. Black Diamond Band

noon BMF Dojo Martial Arts

1 p.m. washer tournament on the ballfield

1:30 p.m. Battle of the Banks root sacking contest

2 p.m. Root Derby

2:45 p.m. root sacking contest

2-4 p.m. root toss and root golf on the ballfield

3 p.m. McArthur's Tae Kwon Do demonstration

4 p.m. Christian the Magician

5 p.m. Entertainment by Elizabeth

5:30 p.m. root grinding demonstration

6-10 p.m. Blue Steel Band

Sunday

6-10 p.m. childrens area, craft village, festival stands

11-a.m.-2 p.m. Kevin Bulchik Duo

noon bloody Mary contest

12:45 p.m. root sacking contest

1 p.m. bags tournament on ballfield

Free shuttle buses will run from the Dorris Intermediate School parking lot at Camelot and Illinois 159 to the main entrance at Woodland Park.
