Twin roundabouts nearing completion

News-DemocratJune 5, 2014

Drivers will soon travel along the second of the twin roundabouts at Illinois 15, Illinois 13 and Illinois 158 (Centerville Avenue) unimpeded by construction.

Resurfacing and directional sign work are still being worked on. After that, says project engineer Tom Borsch of the Illinois Department of Transportation, the roundabout will be fully opened to traffic. No exact time or date has been given.

The project was originally slated to be complete by November but had been well ahead of schedule for several months. IDOT has said this spring that the project will be done by the end of June.

At least the Cardinals are out of town this weekend. Starting at 8 p.m. Friday, the Missouri Department of Transportation is closing all lanes of Interstate 44 between Broadway and the Poplar Street Bridge (this stretch was until recently known as the depressed section of Interstate 70).

MoDOT is removing the Market and Chestnut street bridges over the weekend as part of the City Arch River project.

The Eads bridge will also be closed. Detours for Interstate 44 will be marked and use portions of the otherwise closed Memorial Drive for eastbound traffic and Broadway for westbound traffic.

All lanes of Interstate 44 will reopen at 5 a.m. Monday.

Patch work on the ramp from southbound Interstate 255 to Illinois 15 westbound should be complete by Friday, June 13. The ramp will not be closed, but flaggers will be present.

Expect lane reductions for the next couple of weeks along Interstate 67 at the Clark Bridge in Alton.

Significant delays are expected for the bridge deck repairs, and IDOT is encouraging motorists to use alternate routes during the work from June 9 to June 20, depending on weather.

Expect lane restrictions on the Interstate 64/55 eastbound collector/distributor between the Tudor-Piggot entrance ramp and Barack Obama Avenue in East St. Louis from Monday to Wednesday. The right lane will close at 6 a.m. and reopen by 3:30 p.m., according to IDOT, weather permitting. The lane is being resurfaced.
