Repairs to Clark Bridge will slow commuters

News-DemocratJune 9, 2014

Madison County commuters could have a difficult time getting back and forth to Missouri during the next two weeks.

According to the Illinois Department of Transportation, there will be lane restrictions through June 20 on the Clark Bridge in Alton so deck repairs can be made on the span.

The lane closures, which will reduce traffic flow from two lanes in each direction to one, are expected to cause lengthy delays.

Motorists are urged to find an alternate route, potentially the Chain of Rocks Bridge.

The Clark Bridge, which carries U.S. 67 from Alton to East Alton, Mo., opened in January 1994. It is the northernmost Mississippi River crossing in the metro-east.
