Jurors were being selected Monday morning in St. Clair County for the first-degree murder trial of Jimmy L. Davis, who is accused of stabbing his nephew to death at a Fourth of July barbecue last year.

Davis, 56, of 430 N. 11th Street in East St. Louis, stabbed his nephew, Demetric Dowell, 29, of 629 Post Place in East St. Louis, during an argument, police have said.

Several relatives were gathered at Davis' home to celebrate the holiday when the argument erupted about midnight, according to authorities.

Davis has no previous felony convictions in St. Clair County.

Patrick Sullivan and Andrew Liefer represent Davis.

Chief Judge John Baricevic will preside over the trial.
