Caseyville Police have arrested a man they believe is responsible for a string of burglaries in the village.

Officers were called just after 3 p.m. Wednesday to the first block of Covina Court with a report of a burglary in progress. When they arrived, police were able to take the suspect into custody without incident.

Arrested was Darryl L. Schofield, 35, of the 800 block of North 23rd Street in East St. Louis. He was charged with residential burglary, a Class 1 felony, and possession of burglary tools, a Class 4 felony.

Police said Schofield had burglarized several homes on Covina Court and that he was in possession of the stolen items when he was captured. He also had a wrench, pipe saw, a screwdriver and other tools used to break into or steal items from the residences.

Schofield was being held Friday morning in the St. Clair County Jail with bail set at $50,000.
