News-DemocratJune 16, 2014

It's going to be hot this week in the metro-east as the mercury moves into the 90s and the heat index reaches the 100 degree mark.

A 30 percent chance of scattered showers is in the forecast for Monday when the high temperature is expected to reach 90. The most likely chance for rain will be before 2 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.

Overnight the low will be 73 under mostly clear skies.

On Tuesday it will be mostly sunny with a high of 93 and a heat index of 100. Gusty winds of up to 23 mph will offer a little bit of relief from the muggy temperatures.

The sky will become partly cloudy Tuesday night and a 20 percent chance of thunderstorms is in the forecast for Wednesday with the most likely chance of rain after 1 p.m. The high will be 92.
