18th Air Force change of command ceremony on Friday

June 16, 2014

— Lt. Gen. Carlton D. Everhart will assume command of the 18th Air Force during a ceremony set for 10 a.m. Friday.

Gen. Darren W. McDew, Air Mobility Command commander, will preside over the assumption of command. Everhart is replacing McDew, who assumed AMC's command during a ceremony in early May.

As AMC's only warfighting numbered air force, 18th Air Force is responsible for the command's worldwide mission of providing rapid, global mobility for America's armed forces through airlift, aerial refueling, aeromedical evacuation, and contingency response.

Everhart will also command Task Force 294, which oversees Air Force tanker operations in support of U.S. Strategic Command.
