Voters can blame themselves for the mess in our nation

June 16, 2014

Liberal/ progressives have loved to blame President Bush, conservatives, Republicans, the Tea Party -- anybody -- for six years but fail to look in the mirror for electing the people who have failed them.

In October 2008, the $770 billion TARP bank bailout was passed by the Senate; it was Barack Obama who was instrumental in getting Democrats in both chambers to support it. In May 2010, Obama's Justice Department dropped its criminal investigation of AIG and the conduct of its executives, which led to the government's $180 billion bailout of the company. I thought it was only the Republicans protected the rich and corporate America?

With Bush's wars, on Jan. 27, 2009, Obama's Secretary of Defense Robert Gates told Congress that troop levels in Afghanistan had to increase from 32,000 to 60,000. Under Bush 630 died there; under Obama, 1,681 and now he proclaims 10,000 troops will remain. Obama promised to withdraw from Iraq on a 16-month (one combat brigade a month) basis. That never happened as well as Gitmo closing as he promised or ending military commissions to try detainees.

Obama chose as his secretary of Health and Human Services Tom Daschle, a lobbyist for health care companies and opposed single payer universal health care. Daschle withdrew his nomination but not because of any conflict of interest; it was his problems paying his taxes. Obama had several vetting problems filling positions but this will have to wait due to the guidelines of this forum.
