Well, our sage from Carlyle has done it again. In a recent letter to the BND he goes back in time to blame a Republican governor from a decade ago for setting the stage for the legislature not making permanent the temporary tax hike.
Using his logic, President Lincoln would have been right to blame President Washington for the Civil War. After all, Washington commanded the Revolutionary War and in that sense, he set the stage for the Civil War.
In reality, the Democrats own all aspects of Illinois government, from St. Clair County to Springfield. They bought it; they own it.
They had plenty of extra revenue to reduce our deficit and pay most of the overdue bills. California did it, so why can't we?
But I'll give credit where credit is due. Democratic state Rep. Jerry Costello II is one of the lone voices on the other side of the aisle for fiscal sanity.
