News-DemocratJune 18, 2014

Police on Wednesday identified the man who became the second murder victim within three years at the same East St. Louis house.

Charles Harper, 29, was killed Tuesday when he was shot multiple times inside 805 N. 79th St. in East St. Louis, Police Chief Michael Floore said. Harper lived in the house.

An autopsy was planned for Wednesday. Police initially responded to a report of multiple shots being fired inside the house at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Floore said police continue investigating but have yet to establish a motive or suspects. A second man in the house was shot and a third taken in for questioning Tuesday.

The same house was the scene of a home invasion, killing and beating on Jan. 22, 2012. Jeremy M. Smith and Robert A. Hopkins were both convicted of home invasion, but charges for the murder of Christopher Rush were dismissed.
