I've often thought about going back to school for an advanced degree.
Not very hard, and not without laughing, but I have thought of it.
But now an organization on the island of Cyprus can fulfill that dream without it even taking much effort.
I'm not sure how the email with the offer got through our junk mail screening system here, but it is a great offer.
"We are pleased to announce that based on a thorough review of your previous academic record the Board at Global Doctorate Council has approved you as a 'Professional Member.' You are among the 3 percent working professional in the regions who qualified under the evaluation system," the offer noted, complete with grammatical errors.
It offered me the globally recognized title of Dr. Wally Spiers.
Actually, if I were to get a doctorate, I would hope it had my actual, more dignified first name, Wallace, on it. They should throw in my middle initial, "L" as well.
But I guess I have to take what I can get.
My status is currently temporary, the offer notes. I need only to take "A short Telephonic interview with our evaluator," (capitalization theirs) and submit verification of my last degree earned.
Since my last (and only) degree is a BS, I'm thinking I am quite a few hours of advanced study away from a doctorate.
But who knows?
They also need an updated cell number for an interview. It's nice to know they need a personal connection and don't just give these things to anybody with an email address.
No mention is made of money but I can't imagine this is free. But no matter the cost, it wouldn't be worth the paper it is printed on.
I also have trouble believing the offer amounts to much due to one of the conditions it includes.
"NOTE: Candidates must respond to this email for an interview before June 31st. Any delay shall result in cancellation of your Membership and your status will be marked as "Not Verified" in the system."
It was signed, "Dr. Dustin Brown, Director Global Doctorate Council.
Maybe I'm being overly skeptical. Dr. Brown and the council reside on Cyprus where there may be a June 31st, for all I know.
But I'm not counting on it. I'll just have to stay a BS, so to speak.
