Man critical after bullets spray SUV in East St. Louis

— An East St. Louis man was shot multiple times in his abdomen, thigh and arms Sunday afternoon, and police were searching Monday for the shooter.

The 19-year-old victim, who survived, was riding in the rear of a 2006 Chevrolet Suburban when bullets splattered the vehicle, leaving him with multiple wounds, Police Chief Michael Floore said.

The victim was taken to Memorial Hospital, and later transferred to St. Louis University Hospital, where he was listed Monday in critical condition, Floore said.

Police received a call reporting a shooting with the victim being taken by private car to Memorial Hospital. Police went to the hospital, where they were told by the driver that he had been driving in the 600 block of North 78th Street when an unknown gunman fired several bullets, striking the vehicle, Floore said.

The victim was not able to talk with police, Floore said. There was no known motive or suspect as of Monday.

"We're continuing our investigation," Floore said.
