Police identify Cahokia shooting victim: 45-year-old mother of two teens

News DemocratJune 27, 2014

— Police are investigating the homicide of a 45-year-old Cahokia mother who was shot several times in her home in the 100 block of Kenneth Street Friday morning.

Cassandra Holman died at Touchette Regional Hospital in Centreville two hours after police received an early-morning call reporting a home invasion at the woman's residence.

"When they arrived at the residence, they learned that a female victim had been shot," Police Chief James Jones said.

Holman, who was bloody from the gunshot wounds she sustained, had run to a neighbor's house for help.

She was rushed to a hospital but died from her wounds, according to Scott Workman, deputy commander of the Major Case Squad of Greater St. Louis.

Police have not recovered a weapon, he said.

During the home invasion, another person was shot and later received treatment for non-life threatening injuries.

Crime scene investigators from Illinois State Police could be seen early Friday morning processing evidence. There was a huge police presence at the home throughout the morning as investigators tried to piece together what happened.

Anyone with any information is urged to call 332-4248.

A screen from one of the windows of the home was pulled off, and multiple bullet holes could be seen in the siding of the house.

Jones said Holman's two children, believed to be in their teens, were at home when she was shot. Workman confirmed there were a number of people living in the house, both adults and children.

It was not immediately known if anyone in the house knew the attackers.
