Court reins in executive power

June 29, 2014

President Obama got rapped on the knuckles this week by a unanimous Supreme Court for wrongfully tipping the balance of power in government.

Presidential appointments are supposed to receive Senate approval. But in 2012 to get around that, Obama used his executive power to make recess appointments to the National Labor Relations Board -- even though the Senate wasn't really in recess.

Obama, a constitutional expert, no doubt knew that the courts eventually would overturn his actions. A 9-0 vote by the high court tells you that there were no shades of gray over the basic principle.

To Obama, getting his way is more important than upholding the Constitution. How sad that a president would act that way.
